This is an expensive site to begin with by nature, seeing as how it’s a near-daily toy review blog. So I try to limit my purchases to things that are $20 or less. But, well–stuff happens, construction sets are expensive, one thing leads to another, and then I end up with a $75 Goblin Zeppelin made of bloks.
The World of Warcraft Goblin Zeppelin Ambush is one of the lynchpins of the launch of that Mega Bloks theme, and it’s so different from anything in release right now that I just couldn’t resist it. It reminds me of the Turtle Blimp from the good ol’ days of Vintage Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles–except that it’s composed of bricks and bloks.
The blimp part of the Zeppelin is made up mostly of two large purple pieces that you build on and inside of, while the ship part is three huge brown chunks that you reinforce and add onto. It’s neither the most revolutionary nor most invigorating build I’ve done this year (or even this month), but the final product looks magnificent. With ladders to climb on and a cannon to fire and all manner of Zeppelin-related appendages, the Goblin Zeppelin itself looks cool as Hell and is a blast to play with.
Of course, as glorious as the giant airship is, it’s not all that you’re getting in this set. No, like most modern Mega Bloks sets, there’s a small “versus” secondary build–in this case, a rubber band-powered firing crossbow. And what’s a Crossbow with a werewolf-like Worgen to shoot it? And for that matter, what’s a giant Goblin Zeppelin without a Goblin pilot and minotaur-like Paladin to hang out on it?
Oh yes, this Goblin Zeppelin is absolutely full of exciting deco and features and figures. Is it worth a good chunk of your paycheck? I would say so…
