Due to a variety of quality-control issues, I wasn’t as pleased with the Mega Bloks World of Warcraft Swift Wyvern that I reviewed last week as I wanted to be. He had three right legs and only one left leg, and the paintwork on both the Wyvern itself and its Tauren Hunter rider figure was far below the usual outstanding work by MEGA Brands.
But since I already ordered the whole Fall 2012 World of Warcraft Mega Bloks series 1 from BA Toys, I definitely wanted to give the Mounts series another chance. And I am very happy that I did. While I generally don’t consider gryphons to be as visually exciting or interesting as wyverns, the Swift Gryphon Mega Bloks toy is of an all-around higher quality that makes it a much more appealing purchase. The paint applications are all done expertly, there are no wrong or missing pieces, and the sculpt really does the mythological beast justice.
And if you want a wolfman-like Worgen figure without buying the $65-$75 Goblin Zeppelin, this set is your only chance this year. With a killer (literally) axe and some nicely-detailed dark blue and red armor, the Worgen Death Knight will make a great commander for all my of my Halo Mega Bloks Brutes…
